National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

On December 7, 1941, the Japanese military launched a surprise attack on the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The attack on Pearl Harbor began at 7:55 a.m. and only lasted one hour and 15 minutes killing 2,403 U.S. personnel, including 68 civilians, and destroyed or damaged 19 U.S. Navy ships, including 8 battleships, and 205 Army Air Corps planes. This was a day that would live in infamy and thrust the United States of America into the Second World War.
On Pearl Harbor Day 2021, this annual event will commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Americans and people from all over the world gather to pay tribute to those whose service and sacrifice preserved freedom and liberty at home and abroad. The Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade is an important reminder of that fateful day at Pearl Harbor, while providing hope that from conflict and the devastation of war, peace and friendship can occur.
The theme of the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade is "remembering our past and celebrating our future." The purpose of the parade is to honor and pay respect to the Pearl Harbor survivors, our Veterans, Active Duty Military and their Families. The parade takes place each year in Hawaii on the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. The Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade and Commemoration Tour will include the following incredible events:
•Visit and Wreath Laying at Pearl Harbor
•Opening Ceremony at Fort Derussy
•Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Waikiki
In addition to participating in these important events, the tour will include visits to iconic sites throughout the Island including: the USS Missouri, USS Oklahoma Memorial, USS Arizona Memorial, National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific ("Punch Bowl"), the North Shore, Haleiwa town, Dole Plantation, and the Polynesian Cultural Center.

Celebrating the Army National Guard's 385th Birthday!

 The PaYS Team would like to take the opportunity to wish the Army National Guard (ARNG) a very happy 385th birthday. The ARNG was founded on December 13, 1636 in Massachusetts. It is the oldest component of the Armed Forces of the United States and one of the Nation's longest-enduring institutions. The ARNG has proven to be an invaluable asset to the PaYS Program.
We are proud to honor the men and women that have chosen to serve in the Army National Guard throughout the years. Each of the 50 states and U.S. territories celebrate the birthday with cake cutting ceremonies held at Army National Guard armories across the Nation.

Army PaYS Program Welcomes Partners

The City of San Antonio and the U.S. Army held a Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) Program signing ceremony. The ceremony was held downtown at the historical Plaza De Armas Art Gallery next to the San Antonio City Hall. The ceremonial memorandum of agreement was signed by Ron Nirenberg, Mayor, City of San Antonio and LTG John R. Evans, Jr., Commanding General, U.S. Army North (5th Army). During his speech, Mayor Nirenberg said, "transitioning from the Army is not easy and no one is guaranteed employment once they leave the active-duty ranks. This program will give Soldiers the opportunity to interview with the City of San Antonio for possible employment."

DemKota Ranch Beef announced their partnership with PaYS. The signing ceremony was held at the National Guard Armory in Aberdeen, SD. Mr. Adam Bode, Chief Operations Officer for DemKota Ranch Beef and LTC Lucas Yoho, Commander of the Minneapolis Recruiting Battalion signed the ceremonial agreement for their respective organizations. Mr. Bode addressed the crowd with a few remarks, he expressed his excitement and appreciation for the company's partnership and vowed to be an active partner. He stated, "We are very excited to partner with the Army and provide these Soldiers with opportunities for employment. We are very grateful to partner with these individuals who have sacrificed so much for all of us".

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office and the Columbia Recruiting Battalion recently held their PaYS signing ceremony. The event took place in Spartanburg, SC at the Sheriff's Department. LTC Brian Meister, Commander, Columbia Recruiting Battalion and Sheriff Chuck Wright, Spartanburg County Sheriff participated in the formal ceremony.

The Army PaYS Program introduced Northrim Bank as a new partner with a Signing Ceremony. The event was held at the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce. BG Charles Knowles, Assistant Adjutant General, Alaska Army National Guard along with Ben Craig, Executive Vice President, Northrim Bank hosted the event.

Denso Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. and the Great Lakes Recruiting Battalion conducted a signing ceremony. The ceremony was held at Denso Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. headquarters in Battle Creek.
In attendance, at the ceremony, were Kevin Carson, President, Denso Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. and MAJ Stephen Wilson, Executive Officer, Great Lakes Recruiting BN. During the ceremony, Mr. Carson stated, "This is a great opportunity to bring America's best back home and promise them an opportunity to work for an outstanding company." He also added, "You are getting the best this nation has to offer. They come trained, they come physically fit, and they come ready to work."

Xcel Energy recently held their PaYS signing ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Bob Frenzel, CEO, Xcel Energy and BG Laura Clellan, Colorado National Guard Adjutant General. The ceremony took place in Denver, Colorado.

Penn National Gaming, the parent company of Margaritaville Resort Casino and Boomtown Casino & Hotel, became an official partner with the United States Army PaYS Program during a signing ceremony at Margaritaville's Paradise Theater. The ceremony was hosted by Barry Regula, Vice President & General Manager, Margaritaville and Boomtown and CPT Joshua Dragnett, Commander, Shreveport Recruiting Company.
CPT Dragnett stated, "As I'm sure Veterans who are present today can contest, we have an obligation to those that serve and the communities in which they derive. Today's ceremony is a celebration of just that. We're here to reaffirm the Army's commitment to training and developing leaders. That will contribute to our communities' growing success. And we're here to recognize the commitment to offer employment opportunities for transitioning soldiers."

PaYS Marketing Trips

Old Dominion University Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps
The PaYS Team (Crancena Ross, PaYS Marketer, Malinda Johnson, Senior Marketer and Cory Thomas, Social Media Coordinator) traveled to Old Dominion University to provide a PaYS Overview to the Army ROTC Cadets. There were over 50 junior and senior Cadets that attended the briefing. The intent was to inform the ROTC Cadets about the Army PaYS Program.
There were several Cadets with prior service and they contributed to the conversation by their previous experiences with selecting PaYS Partners from previous enlistments. LTC Camala L. Coats, Professor of Military Science, was very excited about the information provided by the PaYS Team. She stated, "The resources that the Army PaYS Program provides are phenomenal and the information provided will help Cadets prepare for their future."

Vermont Army National Guard Recruiting Summit
PaYS Marketing Analyst, Davin Bentley attended the Vermont Recruiting and Retention Summit at Jay Peak, VT. This allowed interaction with the senior leadership of the Vermont Army National Guard (VTARNG) and the VTARNG Recruiting and Retention Battalion. Additionally, over 20 local and national companies and vendors were in attendance. VTARNG senior leadership including MG Gregory Knight (VT National Guard Adjutant General), CSM Paul Edwards (VTARNG State CSM), and CSM Patrick Creamer (VTARNG Recruiting and Retention CSM) expressed interest in the PaYS program. MG Knight spoke extensively about PaYS to the audience of over 150 attendees.

Northern California Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) Board Meeting
The Northern California Recruiting Battalion (NorCal) recently held a Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) board meeting in Ontario, California. This meeting was coordinated to discuss current PaYS Partners and the recruitment of potential partners in the local community. In attendance were representatives from the following PaYS Partners: Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, Shasta County Sheriff's Office, Citrus Heights Police Department, Lithia Motors Inc., Sacramento Metro Fire District, Nevada County (CA), Sacramento Police Department, Fuel Delivery Services Inc., and Price Pump, NorCal leadership and John Delk, PaYS Marketing Analyst.
During the meeting, the group also discussed creating a YouTube channel to highlight local PaYS Partners in the community. The channel would also provide guidance for Army applicants during the PaYS selection process.

NJARNG Future Soldier Selects PaYS Partner
Samuel Armstrong, PaYS Marketing Analyst visited New Jersey Army National Guard. During the visit SFC Patrick McCarthy, MEPS Guidance Counselor, enlisted Ruben Rodriguez in the New Jersey Army National Guard. Mr. Rodriguez selected MOS 42A and ships to training after high school graduation next year. One of the PaYS Partners he selected was GAT Airline Ground Support. SFC McCarthy stated that most Soldiers who process for enlistment know about PaYS prior to arriving at MEPS. He encourages all Soldiers to select at least one partner during processing. Mr. Armstrong will follow up with Ruben to ensure that he connects with GAT Airline Ground Support after completion of Advanced Individual Training.

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works visits TRADOC

Part of General Dynamics Marine Systems, Bath Iron Works (BIW) is a full service shipyard specializing in the design, building and support of complex surface combatants for the U.S. Navy. BIW's rich history reflects a continuous pattern of innovation, new technology and process improvements. Since 1884, they have delivered more than 425 ships to the world's naval and commercial fleets. Today, BIW builds naval ships with the same dedication. They are the lead designer and builder of the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, one of the most technologically advanced and capable surface combatants ever built.
On November 5, 2021, PaYS Program Manager, Antonio Johnson hosted BIW representatives Patrick Sence and Michael Ross during a visit to TRADOC headquarters at Fort Eustis, VA. They met with LTG Maria Gervais, Deputy Commanding General, TRADOC, to discuss the PaYS Partnership and BIW`s other efforts in supporting transitioning Soldiers. Mr. Sence stated, "We are honored to have skilled Veterans transition to the company because they bring more than just skill, they bring the Army Core Values and it only gets better from there". LTG Gervais spoke to the life cycle of a Soldier and stated the transition should be seamless. It was also discussed that LTG Gervais would officiate a PaYS Signing Ceremony that publicly announces the partnership with BIW in the near future.

After the meeting with LTG Gervais, Mr. Johnson escorted the BIW Team to the Fort Eustis Transition Assistance Program (TAP) office to discuss the DOD SkillBridge Program. BIW would like to offer transitioning Soldiers at Fort Eustis the opportunity to participate in skilled training programs such as welding and pipefitting at no cost to TAP or the Soldier.
The SkillBridge Program helps Veterans as they plan for life after the military. SkillBridge matches civilian opportunities to job training and work experience at the end of your military duty. In addition to opportunities such as Tuition Assistance and the GI Bill Program, Veterans can enhance their marketability and post-separation career prospects by participating in a SkillBridge opportunity. The PaYS Program thanks Mr. Sence, Mr. Ross and the entire BIW Team for their support of transitioning Soldiers. We look forward to a successful partnership and an exciting ceremony in the near future.
