This month, the PaYS Program is celebrating Army Reserve Birthday and Month of the Military Child.
Army Reserve Birthday
We want to wish the Army Reserve a Happy Birthday. The Army Reserve Birthday is the celebration of the generations of Soldiers who, like many patriots before them, embraced their roles as "Citizen Soldiers", continuing their proud and distinguished legacy of service in the Army Reserve. Through the Cold War, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf War, and the Global War on Terror, and countless other crises, operations, emergencies, and natural disasters, Warrior Citizens of the Army Reserve have never failed to answer the Nation's call.

Month of the Military Child
We are also celebrating Month of the Military Child. Each year in the month of April, we show appreciation for Military Children and the important role they play in the Armed Forces community.
The reason we celebrate the color purple and dandelions in the Month of the Military Child is because purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the Military - a combination of Army green, Marine red and Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force Blue. Dandelions are symbolic because they put down roots almost anywhere, are almost impossible to destroy and are survivors in a broad range of climates. The strength and resiliency of Military Children are inspirational. Especially this year, as many of them continue to face learning from home adventures and extended separations from a parent through deployments.
Please join us as we celebrate our Military Children.
Army Reserve Birthday
By: Cory Thomas
On April 23rd, the Army Reserve will celebrate 114 years of service to our Nation. Throughout the years, Reserve Soldiers have served in numerous capacities in every major Military campaign. As a result, the Army Reserve has established itself to be a critical component in the U.S. Military structure and support.
PaYS Social Media Coordinator, Cory Thomas, recently asked LTG Jody J. Daniels, Chief, U.S. Army Reserve questions concerning the birthday celebration.
Cory asked, LTG Daniels what is the best part about of the Army Reserve Birthday for you? LTG Daniels replied, "Each year, I take time to celebrate and reflect on the significance of the U.S. Army Reserve and the talented people who make us successful."
LTG Daniels also stated, "I am extremely grateful for our Soldiers, Civilians and Families. Their dedication to duty keeps us ready for the current challenges we face and their steadfast commitment to our mission shapes our favorable future."
PaYS would like to wish the U.S. Army Reserve a Happy Birthday as well as thank LTG Daniels for her comments and support.

Month of the Military Child
By: Crancena Ross and John Delk
The Defense Department celebrates Military children during the month of April. There are more than 1.6 million Military children who face many challenges and unique experiences as a result of their parents' service. While Military members serve around the world, we often forget the challenges faced by their children. Military families move on average every two to three years, impacting Military children through changing schools and support networks.
Please join us as we recognize three Military Children who followed in the parents' footsteps to serve.
SPC Aramis Felix
SPC Aramis Felix is currently stationed at Fort Campbell, KY. When asked why he enlisted in the U.S. Army he emphatically replied "following my mother's footsteps" as the reason why he joined the Army. PaYS Marketing Analyst, Crancena Ross followed up by asking SPC Felix what were the advantages and disadvantages of being a Military Child? SPC Felix stated the advantages were, "being able to travel to different places, meet new people, and develop long-lasting friendships, but the biggest disadvantage was when my mother had to leave to go to training; I would miss her dearly. I have no regrets about my life experiences as a Military Child and the opportunities it provided."
SFC Georgina Felix, Acting First Sergeant, Baltimore Recruiting Battalion, stated "I enlisted in the U.S. Army to provide a better life for my son. When I joined, he was only five years old. Since then, he would always tell me he wanted to be a Soldier like me. At 17 years old, he followed in my footsteps and now serves in the U.S. Army. I could not be more proud of him and his accomplishments thus far."
PFC Agnes Kiige
PFC Agnes Kiige joined the U.S. Army in 2021 to follow in her father's footsteps and to provide a better life for herself. She is currently serving at Panzer Kaserne, U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart (Germany) in Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 92Y Unit Supply Specialist. PFC Kiige stated, "even though I have not been in the Army very long, I am very pleased with the choice that I made and will take advantage of all the opportunities that the Army has to offer."
PFC Kiige's father, SSG Paul Kiige is currently assigned as an Army Recruiter.
Paige Basner
Paige Basner enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 25, 2022 as an Allied Trade Specialist (MOS 91E). During a recent interview, PaYS Marketing Analyst, John Delk asked Paige why she wanted to join the Army. She responded, "I always wanted to join the Military. I have many family members that have served, to include my grandfather and father. Listening to my father's stories about his time in the Military definitely inspired me."
Paige is currently a Future Soldier in the Salt Lake City Recruiting Battalion and her father, Spencer Basner, served in the Air Force for four years and is now a Sergeant at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Paige will be attending Army Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, SC and move on to Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, VA.
In honor of all Military Children, the PaYS Teams encourages you to stay strong and wishes you the best!
