Michael McKinnon is a Detective for the Richmond Police Department in Richmond, VA. He is also currently serving as a Sergeant in the United States Army Reserves. He began his Army career as a 92Y, Supply Specialist. Detective McKinnon joined the Army Reserves to make a difference in his community while being of service to his country. Also, as a PaYS Soldier, Detective McKinnon selected both the Chesapeake and Richmond Police Departments to unite and create positive bonds with the residents of Virginia and the police departments.
Detective McKinnon participated in the CASCOM Industry Day Event, at Ft. Gregg-Adams, VA

Detective McKinnon ultimately chose Richmond Police Department, a choice that began his career success. When asked why he wanted to become a police officer, he said, "I enjoy the cohesion. The best part of the job is having direct contact with those on our team as well as within the community. Law Enforcement is much like the Military, in many ways as it provides structure, discipline, safety, and a good work- life balance that helps me focus on other parts of my life that are important, such as spending time with my family. Being a part of the Richmond Police Department allowed me to make Detective in six years, which is great and I'm proud of what I have accomplished so far and the opportunities that's projected for my future."

Detective McKinnon participated in the CASCOM Industry Day Event, at Ft. Gregg-Adams, VA to provide Soldiers with opportunities to receive information on the service and benefits of being an officer with Richmond Police Department. Detective McKinnon said he likes participating at community events because they provide the opportunity to share his experiences as a police officer and encourage others to empower their communities by joining the force.
