DECEMBER NEWSLETTER THEMES
National Pearl Harbor
Remembrance Day

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, observed annually on December 7th, honors
the lives lost during the surprise military attack on the U.S. naval
base in Hawaii in 1941. On this fateful day, the Japanese assault led to
the deaths of over 2,400 Americans and marked the United States' entry
into World War II. A further 1,178 people were injured in the attack,
which permanently sank two U.S. Navy battleships (the USS Arizona and
the USS Utah) and destroyed 188 aircraft. The day serves as a solemn
reminder of the sacrifices made by those who perished and the resilience
of the nation in the face of adversity. Ceremonies held across the
country, including at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, offer an
opportunity to reflect on the enduring legacy of this pivotal moment in
American history.

was a significant step in expanding the network of employers committed to supporting
Veterans and service members transitioning into civilian careers.

Roll Call Chicagoland is dedicated to supporting Veterans, active-duty service members, and

address, Admiral Harley emphasized the critical role of networking in creating
opportunities: "It's here, in this room, and it's out there in that room-this is where
you're going to find a position. It may not be the person you're talking to today; it may be
the person that you knew, who met that person, who talked to that person. That's how you get
your work. It's about networking. That's why I'm thrilled to see the great work that Roll
Call does here in Chicagoland-it's truly exceptional."

AUGUSTA, ME POLICE DEPARTMENT SUPPORTS VETERANS
Story By: Crancena Ross
Officer Jonathan Young, a Bangor, ME native and recent recruit with the Augusta Maine Police
Department, who enlisted in the National Guard as a Military Police Officer, is also a PaYS
Soldier. After registering for the Program, Officer Young selected, PaYS Partner, Eastern
Maine Healthcare and several other local organizations as potential employers.

During his interview with PaYS Marketer, Crancena Ross, Officer Young stated, "I always knew
I wanted to serve my community, but I never imagined it would be in law enforcement. The
Army gave me the discipline and values that made the transition to law enforcement feel
natural." Born and raised in Bangor, Young graduated from Bangor High School in 2020, before
pursuing a nursing degree at Husson University. However, his desire to give back to his
community led him to enlist in the National Guard. "You learn to adapt, to think critically,
and to handle any situation that comes your way," Young said of his time in the Army. "The
Army instilled values of discipline, integrity, and service to others, which fit perfectly
with what I wanted to do in law enforcement.
Officer Jonathan Young has a promising career with the Augusta Police Department, a
department known for supporting Veterans in their transition to Civilian employment. The
department, which values the leadership, responsibility, and commitment instilled in
military Veterans, is confident that Officer Young will serve his community proudly. "You
can't beat an opportunity to work somewhere that helps Veterans while transitioning and is
willing to train you," Young said. "They're there to support you."
PAYS JOINS FORCES WITH SOLDIER FOR LIFE

Its
been six months since the PaYS program joined forces with the Soldier For Life (SFL)
Directorate, marking a significant milestone in the transformation of the Army Recruiting
Enterprise. In October 2024, the Secretary of the Army announced her initiative to enhance
recruitment and retention efforts by realigning key programs under a unified vision. As a
result, TRADOC G-3/5/7 realigned the Partnership for Your Success (PaYS) program from the
Accessions Directorate to the Soldier for Life Directorate.

PaYS provides an opportunity for Soldiers to serve their country while preparing for their
future by partnering with a cross-section of corporations, companies, and public sector
agencies. The PaYS partners guarantee Soldiers an interview and possible employment after
their service in the Army. The program is part of the Army's effort to partner with
America's business community and increase Soldiers' success.
PaYS connects Soldiers with employers who understand the skills, discipline and work ethic
that military service members bring to business. This program is part of a long-term U.S.
Army effort to help Soldiers forge professional relationships with businesses and encourage
business owners to look to the Army as a plentiful and reliable recruiting source. Since
PaYS began in 2000, more than 1,300 employers have partnered with the program.
Since the merger, PaYS and SFL have teamed up to promote awareness of both programs in
several events nationwide. Most notable are the PaYS ceremonies with the US Virgin Islands
Government, Northrup Grumman and the State of Nebraska as well as the AUSA Conference. The
SFL Director, COL Jarrett Thomas and the PaYS Program Manager, Antonio Johnson are
collaborating to enhance the job prospects for transitioning Soldiers and Veterans, offering
them a bridge to post-military careers with companies that want to enhance their hiring
pools with quality veteran talent.

By: Samuel Armstrong
 Army PaYS
Marketer, Samuel Armstrong, recently visited Kansas to bring awareness about the PaYS
program and fostering partnerships between Army Transition Assistance Program (TAP) and
local employers.
Samuel met with the TAP teams at Fort Leavenworth and Fort Riley, where he provided an
in-depth overview of the PaYS program. He updated TAP personnel on the latest developments

Throughout the discussions, Samuel and TAP leaders brainstormed strategies to raise
awareness about PaYS among transitioning Soldiers and ensure that they are properly
registered for the program.
Armstrong visited the Kansas City Recruiting Battalion, where
he met with LTC Crystal Jones, Commander. Their discussion focused on keeping recruiters
informed about the PaYS program's updates and ensuring that all recruiters are registering
for the PaYS. A key point of conversation was the upcoming signing ceremony for the City of
Waynesville. They strategized the event's planning, which will celebrate PaYS partnerships
and raise local awareness of the program. He also visited the Liberty Recruiting Company,
Topeka Recruiting Station, and Manhattan Recruiting Station, further spreading the word
about PaYS and its benefits for Soldiers seeking post-service careers.

A major highlight of Samuel's visit was his trip to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), where
he met with the Recruiting Division, including Trooper Joseph Owen and LT Jesse Johnson. The
pair expressed interest in participating in career fairs at Army installations across the
country, seeing PaYS as a valuable avenue for recruiting qualified Soldiers into the force.
They also discussed the possibility of building a deeper relationship with the TAP programs
at both Fort Leavenworth and Fort Riley. KHP is eager to partner with these programs to
engage more transitioning Soldiers and offer them career opportunities within law
enforcement.
PaYS Makes an Impact in Seattle, WA
By: Alfredo Harris and Travis Carter
PaYS Marketing Analysts Alfredo Harris and
Travis Carter recently made a marketing trip to Seattle, Washington. During the visit, Mr.
Harris briefed the Seattle Recruiting Battalion Command and the Seattle Recruiting Company
Command on the PaYS Program. Meanwhile, Mr. Carter met with the Operations Sergeant Major
from the WAARNG Recruiting and Retention Battalion to explain the updated PaYS process and
how the RSP ties into it. They also connected with local partners, including the Seattle
Police Department and Pierce County Sheriff. To wrap up, they met with Transition Assistance
Program (TAP) representatives at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) to discuss how they're
using PaYS.
Mr. Harris held a briefing with the Seattle Recruiting Company Command team, answering
questions and helping a few team members try out the self-register feature of the program.
Later, he presented to the Seattle Recruiting Battalion Command team, covering updates to
PaYS, its use as a recruiting and retention tool, and strategies to bring in more partners.

Mr. Carter's focus was on the WAARNG Recruiting and Retention Battalion, where he spoke with
the Operations Sergeant Major and Operations NCOIC. He walked them through the recent
changes to PaYS and explained how the RSP helps Soldiers connect with employment
opportunities after training. They also discussed ways the WAARNG can promote PaYS to all
Army National Guard Soldiers, not just new recruits.
While in Seattle, Mr. Harris and Mr. Carter visited two key local partners. At the Seattle
Police Department, Mr. Harris updated Sergeant Brandon McDougald on the program. Then, they
headed to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, where they had a brief conversation with a few
recruiters about better utilizing PaYS.
Their
final stop was at JBLM's TAP Office, where they met with Christopher Gentz and Frank Handoe.
Mr. Gentz and Mr. Handoe explained how their office uses the PaYS Program to help Soldiers
and shared strategies that have worked for them. The discussion included an open dialogue
about recent updates to ensure clarity and alignment with the program's goals.

Overall, the trip was a huge success. Partners had their concerns addressed, and new
strategies were developed through collaborative discussions. Connecting with the JBLM TAP
office provided valuable insights that can be applied when working with other TAP offices in
the future. The partners and stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to the PaYS Program,
ensuring Soldiers have access to the quality employment opportunities.
